As with most programs, many people competed to earn a spot in the program. The entire first year was foundations-based, teaching core principles of design with the expectation of a high level of craft and detail.

Building a good foundation
The department didn't exist only to land students jobs. Each design solution we came up with was to impact the world & the people using it for the better.
While mature design does in fact benefit business objectives as well, that cannot be the sole purpose. Great designers create solutions that are ethically good. They dig deep to find the right balance between human & business goals.
Portfolio: a few favorite projects
Over 4 years, there were dozens of projects to choose from as my showcase. Some on physical products, while others were centered around service design.

My senior year capstone
The 4th year of Industrial Design was carved out to focus students on 1 thesis. For my capstone, I leveraged my new design thinking experience to redefine the sport I played as a child: tennis.
